Hi My main concern is Dezincification as I have seen quite a few bad cases of it on copper boilers and people do seem to be unaware of it. This can only usually be spotted by taking all of the cladding off to look at the seams unless the Boiler inspector is really aware of the possible problem and looks at the ends of stays and joints in the firebox. Even then it is almost impossible to spot the tell tale pink tinge owing to the soot colour. In addition whilst a boiler with dezincification could take an Hydraulic test and pass, in only about two years it could become very much a liability. Do the new regulations stipulate that only Silver Solder can be used for construction now? With regards to steel boilers it also seems a retrograde step that when the Hydraulic test is applied shock testing is now not required. Nothing finds a dodgy weld faster than a hammer.
