ray bradbury was mentioned in a student's thesis which
brought to mind a talk i attended years ago when
i was freelancing for the easy reader contributing editor is how
i was titled i had what you might call the intellectual beat though why
you would call it anything at all i don't know so what
i was saying was that ray in support of a detective novel he'd published
yes
a detective novel
said he thought the best motive for writing is love
whereupon
a little voice near my then thick hair asked why not anger or hate or curiosity or anything else really
the rest for me is history
i left journalism
i still don't understand what bradbury intended exactly
and i can't ask him now because he's dead
but there it was again
last week
popping up for no reason at all like something that had been foreshadowed
recurring
a useful bubble to move the plot along
if this were fictive
