Well, swell, Phil, Mike, et al. So now that you've exposed and humiliated
me as not being a David Bowie listener, maybe you could tackle the rest of
David Ritchie's poem.

David Ritchie wrote:

"So then I recalled Major Tom, singing in his orbit suit,"

to which Lawrence Helm replied:

"You recall something about the astronaut Tom Jones and associate him
with the singer Tom Jones."

In 1969, David Bowie released an eponymous album that included the song
'Space Oddity'. In the song, there is a Major Tom who has an
unfortunate (?) experience in space, and sings:

"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."
