Ethereal????? If you had said, 'incoherent' or 'confused' or 'inconsistent', I
might have agreed with you, but *ethereal*?! I haven't been ethereal since
leaving the seminary in 1964. It's been pure l'amour de la boue ever since.
No idealistic, pollyannanistic, mystic beliefs behind my pacifism. It consists
solely in this: I don't want to die. It's an execrable lie that cowards die a
thousand deaths. Cowards dance on the graves of the brave, singing: "I'm still
alive, I'm still alive, I'm still alive. You're not." I cheer on Cowardism to
all the world. COWARDISM ROCKS! COWARDISM RULES! LET'S TEACH COWARDISM IN
OUR SCHOOLS! I got fired a couple of times for teaching cowardism -- that and
racial equality -- ya gotta love the South. My pacifism springs from this one
inviolable moral principle: Thou shalt not kill nor die nor injure to make
some rich motherfucker richer. Simple as that. And my politics are just as
simple: Soak the rich and give to the poor. Hooray!

Alas, poor Jesus didn't live to know me. He would have died a happier man.
