I dont really replay stuff at all...   (New game+ and all that kinda stuff)

Is the game plot/character/story wise decent enough to warrant the first 
playthrough?

Don't.  You'll either hate it and regret the purchase, or you'll love it and 
we'll never hear from you again.  
Get PPSSPP, then download the PSP version and check out Disgaea 1:  Afternoon 
of Darkness.  Arguably the funniest, with the best characters and story (3 has 
the best mechanics IMO).
This is what Disgaea is like:1.  Start out, do 10-20 damage per attack2.  Play 
for 30 hours, finish the game at around level 99, doing a few thousand damage 
per attack.3.  Unlock the postgame.
Now the real game starts.  1.  Enter first fight.  Every monster does 10s of 
thousands of damage per attack.  Die.2.  Grind for the next 5 days.3.  Go back 
after reaching level 1000.  Still die.4.  Grind for another 5 days.5.  Beat the 
first post-game level.6.  After 200 hours you reach level 9999 and can do 100k 
damage.7.  Unlock post-post game.  Boss does 1 million damage.8.  Break disc.  
Buy 2nd hand copy and try again.9.  Reset your character to level 1 for a 3 
point stat boost.10. Repeat until you can do 1 billion damage.11. After 7 
months of grinding you beat the boss.12.  Break disc again when you find out 
you're still not strong enough to beat Land of Carnage.
