I wrote on this issue in the last The Knowing Field. The article was called
“Some Thoughts on the Phenomenological Method.”
What’s odd to me about this myth about trusting the Field unconditionally is
that it completely ignores the other very critical aspect of Hellinger’s
teaching, the way conscience works with belonging. As facilitators, we always
bring our loyalties, mostly unconsciously, to the work. The idea that we could
be completely objective in interpreting the Field (or that the Field requires
no interpretation) stands in contradiction to this deep, important aspect of
what Hellinger contributed.

This for me is a very prevalent question. I was taught and work in a way that
tends to trust the Field unconditionally. That being said, I think it is
important that we (and when I say we I mean me and people relatively new to
this work) take a long hard look at our own ethics, our own issues with power
and desires to assert our view on the client. The Field might be always right,
but I think in no way does that dispense us from working with the utmost care
and respect for the client's soul, especially around trauma, and in no way does
it excuse abuse of power, at least in my view. My sense is that if you're
having to manhandle the client into your idea of the "right" thing, you're
entirely missing the point of "acknowledging what is".
While I have gained great insight from Bert Hellinger's books and respect him
as the pioneer of this work in occident, I cannot be ok with those videos, both
from a personal and professional standpoint. Constellations are an incredibly
powerful tool, and I feel we have a responsibility to use it with awareness.
Let's not forget that in many cultures around the world, the mechanics of
constellation (or working in the Field) is or has been used to do harm to
others. Like any tool, constellations can cause harm if wielded as a mean to
assert power. As a facilitator, it is my priority to keep that in mind and be
as mindful as possible in how I use this tool.
Those are my two cents. Thank you for this discussion that raises such
important questions rarely acknowleged.

That is an excellent point of discussion which takes it away from Bert and
Sophie,
Even if they were part of the constellation as Gertrude suggested.
I do believe that none of us should blindly follow, and I believe questioning
and dialogue create larger spaces.
There is a point where a facilitator over steps....and the questions that then
arise is when and where and how?
And is there a magic formula for catching this?
And do we need this magic formula?
