Book share also exists because of the generosity of the individuals who began
at in Silicon Valley to use technology to assist people with reading
roadblocks. These innovative people stepped in the gap to fill a void, which
is greatly appreciated.

Politically what should be happening is that the US National Library Service or
the Canadian Library Service should begin to scan books and make them available
as text/braille documents which can be read on the Book Port. I see even the
movement towards digital audio players as not embracing the new technologies
that are available. 1 can scan and make available many more books than 1 can
record by voice. I would appreciate it if the NLS and its state library system
would be willing to scan any book that a person wanted to scan. This would
make an enormous number of books available. I'm sure that these services like
NLS or Canadian NLS would be able to get through the hurdles of copyrights and
publishers.

If that's the Case Bruce, why haven't you Canadians developped a service
similar to Bookshare for yourselves?

.
.It's not that simple. Canada does have similar provisions in its copyright
.laws.

other nations built that sort of language into their copyright laws, Bookshare
