Seeing Eye at least has a number of NLS books students can borrow and
a NLS-approproate tape player in each room. Bring your cd's as they
also provide a fab sound system.

Paula,
I'm not sure about current policies, but The Seeing Eye, in the past would not allow anything downloaded by the students on their computers. Why not try calling both schools and asking? I really think you won't have that much free time to read though. Have fun at whichever school you go to. I've have gotten 2 dogs from The Seeing Eye and it will be time very soon for a third.

Thanks Walt,
I wasn't sure if it would be allowed, and to be honest, I forgot totally about unpacking the bookshare stuff. Maybe I just should fill up my card with books. <smile>
Thanks for wishing me luck.
It's too bad that I can't runn the Bookport transfer software and the bookshare unpack tool off of a flash drive; then I wouldn't having to be installing software on their machine.
My other throught was perhaps to rent a laptop, but I have no idea of the cost.

Paula -
Here's what I'd suggest you do:
* Take your Book Port CD with you to school. * Explain to the appropriate person or persons what the BP is and ask for permission to install the transfer software during the term of your stay. * If permission is granted, use the CD to install the transfer software. The first time you run it, it's going to ask you to update the software and you should do this. * Just before you leave, use the Add/Remove Programs function from the Control Panel to remove Book Port Transfer and Book Wizard Reader from the computer, or remove them from their respective submenus under Start Menu>Programs.
You can do the same with the Bookshare Unpack Utility.
And all the best with your new dog!

I have a question regarding the sending of material to Bookport from a computer which is not mine.
I will soon be attending guide dog school: probably either at Seeing Eye or GDF. For quite a few years now, I've been getting my dogs from Fidelco which provides training in the home area.
I am wondering if the larger guide dog schools already have Bookport transfer on their machines for their clients' use, or do they allow clients to install the transfer software?
If any one, who recently attended guide dog school has some knowledge about this, please do share.
I, of course, plan to bring lots of books with me, but as a Bookshare member, I'm sure books will become available during my stay at the school, that I'll want to read right away.
I'm going to have to have lots to read, because I will definitely go nuts with all the down time at guide dog school.
Thanks in advance for answers.
Paula
