Someone from APH can jump in, but I honestly don't believe that the Transfer software is the issue here. Because, if you don't own a Bookport, the software is pretty much useless to you. Why would APH care if you installed it on a machine and used it while at guide Dog school? It is not like a screen reader that has very specific licensing issues. Not that APH doesn't have a licensing policy, but the software comes with the Bookport, and that is all that it is intended to do, allow you to transfer files to a Bookport. -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Michael Bowman-Jones Sent: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 3:45 PM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Re: Bookport transfer and a computer not your own Paula, This is Michael, jumping in again: I will be in the same situation probably around a year from now when I have to retire Warren, so I am curious about making the rented laptop accessible for the BP. Would you have your screen reader on a memory "stick" and work with it that way as I have heard is sometimes done or would you actually have to download and then configure the Laptop? I am thinking that if I was in your position now, I would load my BP up with a whole mess of new stuff for reading during the down times rather than even messing with renting a laptop, taking the software, etc. While there is lots of down time, I think you are going to find the new school (whichever it is) demanding enough that you won't want to focus on bringing in new material while you are there--obviously, this is your call. First, though, I would find out if APH would allow me to do this. If they don't, this whole discussion goes away. Here's hoping that you get the breed of dog you prefer and that he/she does not have a dorky name. Michael Bowman-Jones Mikebowmanjones@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
