Besides, the Transfer software installs its own drivers. Without them, Windows will not see the drive.

Hi Annette,

If you just copied the books to the Bookport without the transfer software,
the books would not be readable. You can do this fine with MP3s, but not
with Daisy and/or BRF books.

I will probably just fill up my card with books ahead of time, or borrow a
laptop from my employer.

Paula,

I would think that you would be better off buying an additional 4 gig card
instead of renting a laptop.

Here is another idea, but we will need others from this list to confirm
that
this would work. What if you were to download and unpack tons of books
from
BookShare and then burn the unpacked books to CD's. Take your BookPort
cable to school with you and just plug it into their computers USB. I'm
thinking that the computer will treat the BookPort as an external storage
device. Then put your CD in the drive and copy and paste the next bunch
of
books that you want to read to the BookPort's storage card.

I think you are wise to plan to do a lot of reading. Despite my just
being
at guide dog school last September, I am waiting to go back ASAP and know
exactly what you mean by down time. However, I always seem to fill my
down
time with working via telecommuting and managing my family from 300 miles
away and end up with not as much time to do pleasure reading.

Feel free to write me off-line, my e-mail address follows my name.

Thanks Walt,

I wasn't sure if it would be allowed, and to be honest, I forgot totally
about unpacking the bookshare stuff. Maybe I just should fill up my card
with books. <smile>

Thanks for wishing me luck.

It's too bad that I can't runn the Bookport transfer software and the
bookshare unpack tool off of a flash drive; then I wouldn't having to be
installing software on their machine.

My other throught was perhaps to rent a laptop, but I have no idea of the
cost.
