We counted only 40 species here this weekend, which is well below our past
records.  My scope is back for repair, for the second time in less than a year.
Being without it was more limiting than I expected.  If anyone is considering
a scope purchase, I’ll gladly recommend what NOT to buy.
There are many Red-tails around again.  I could see the Harlan’s on its
power-line tower and the leucistic bird, and its mate, from the same vantage
point this morning.  There are at least two others here that I think may also
be wintering northerners.
The cold weather and snow-cover kept a Fox Sparrow around the feeders on
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, but more normal weather this weekend kept it
hidden away.
