We had another record count weekend at Schochoh, with 50 species, including
our first Bobolinks seen here. Our house list now stands at 115. In
addition to the Bobolinks, we counted first-of-season E. Towhee, Common
Nighthawk and a pair of Dickcissels. The Dickcissel male has been calling
regularly and appears to be settling in a section of lawn that we've left to
grow this spring, thinking that birds need tall grass more than we need
lawn. The Bobolinks (estimated 15-20) stopped briefly in the back wheat
field, yesterday morning, before moving on to the Northwest. The Nighthawk
passed over on Friday evening, flying with purpose, directly to the north.
Also, we made a run this afternoon to try to find the Black Terns that Frank
Lyne reported yesterday, at the 739 pond. They were still there at about
1:00 PM CDT and we got a great look. They were "lifers" for two of
us.thanks Frank!
