We counted 38 species this weekend. That is, by far, our best January
weekend ever.  The snow helped, by concentrating birds around the feeders
and bringing the Horned Larks in from the fields to forage along the road,
near the house, where we could see them.  This was only the third time we've
ever seen an American Tree Sparrow here, and all three times were associated
with a snow event.
Five Sparrow species, including a rare (for us) Field...six if I add the
Junco, was a highlight, along with the Purple Finches that I reported
earlier.  I saw our Prodigal Mockingbird only once and only for about two
minutes, as though it dropped in just to be counted.
