propeller turbine
unshrouded whatnot.

residual thrust from the core is one differentiator.
generated noise an acceptance differentiator.

Beyond larger fan for better propulsive efficiency
the better than doubled rpm (vs the ungeared predecessors ) of the LPT system reduced size and parts ( the GTF has significantly less blades/stators in the path.).
