Hi folks. Tuesday 12/22/09 report. There was a little over an inch of new snow on the ground and snow was still lightly falling during my hike this morning. The temperature was 23 degrees and there was a slight breeze. The following birds were heard this morning: Mourning Dove Red-bellied Woodpecker Downy Woodpecker Hairy Woodpecker Pileated Woodpecker Blue Jay American Crow Black-capped Chickadee Tufted Titmouse White-breasted Nuthatch Eastern Bluebird Northern Cardinal Purple Finch American Goldfinch There was even less singing this morning than yesterday, with the only song being the slow song of the White-breasted Nuthatch. A short "Wik-a wik-a wik-a" of the Red-bellied Woodpecker was also heard as I returned to the yard. At least two Eastern Bluebirds were heard calling as they flew overhead through the falling snow. The White-throated Sparrow with the drooping right wing is still being seen at the feeders.
