Nine birders made up the compliment of this morning's Huntley Meadows Monday
Morning Birdwalk. The weather was hot, clear and calm, but we still managed to
tally 50 species. The shorebirds are coming back, with a Least and a Spotted
sandpiper joining several Killdeer in the central wetlands. The sighting of a
pair of Blue Grosbeaks may have been the morning's highlights. Some of our
group also spotted an Ovenbird in a tree near the tower. Ovenbirds have been
in short supply in the woods of Huntley Meadows over the past few years, and
this was an encouraging find.
