Radnor Lake State Natural Area Davidson Co. Nashville, TN Tuesday, 2007 September 18 mostly clear, warming up 7:00 - 9:30 am Tomorrow I fly to Tucson for a near 2 week business trip, so I made one last September visit to Radnor Lake. I met Jan Shaw at the west parking lot and at the dam we ran into Richard Connors, who had started the morning at the east parking lot. We birded together to Long Bridge, where Jan and Richard continued around the lake while I headed back to prepare for my trip. Thus, they may well have some additional finds to report. Numbers of species and individuals in general decreased from yesterday. However, we did find a YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER in about the same place as yesterday, not far from the deck overlooking the lake after Cane Bridge. It was a 4 vireo morning with PHILADELPHIA and YELLOW-THROATED in addition to WHITE- and RED-EYED. If I counted correctly, we had just 8 species of warblers, with MAGNOLIA eventually becoming the most numerous. SWAINSON'S THRUSHes are still plentiful. HOUSE WREN, GRAY CATBIRD, and a heard ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK rounded out the morning for me. Jan Shaw just called me to report that in her additional wanderings she had 1 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH plus BAY-BREASTED and CANADA WARBLERS to add to the above list. -- Frank Fekel Tennessee State University Center of Excellence in Information Systems 3500 John A.
