Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge Meigs Co. at Birchwood Many flocks of sandhill cranes flew north over Birchwood yesterday. Some of them likely spent the night at the HWR because the number of sandhills is MUCH larger there at 11 AM today. There may be 2000 or more in the fields visible from the gazebo. A great egret is also present, and about one hundred ring-necked ducks and redheads are in the slough. A whooping crane was also noted. Charles Murray Birchwood, TN
