Apparently people are having a lot of problem merging branches. The branching system in svn always confuses me, and it looks like it always goes wrong at some point.Furthermore, I would like to add that this should be a discussion about which development model we want to have. If we want to stick to the centralized repository model then subversion really does almost everything we want. If we want to start experimenting with a less centralized model (for example with lieutenants), then there are other options.
Anyway, there is a matter of taste to take into account, because the workflow always bends depending on the available tools. That's why starting with the bridge allows us to switch to hg but get back to svn if there are problems. If we see that 90% of the core devs switch to hg, then it's likely time to drop svn :)
