BCCWC Steering Committee

The BC Coalition of Women's Centres, a virtual community, recently developed a Steering Committee in order to streamline the process of decision-making and focus on specific work the Coalition needs to do. The Steering Committee e-mail discussion list will exist to: 1) develop strategies for increasing access to information and communications technology, especially in isolated northern and rural women's centres, in order to effectively integrate ICT into the work of women's centres; 2) explore methods by which technology can be used to increase the visibility of women's centres, raise funds for the Coalition and for individual women's centres, and improve the effectiveness of education/awareness campaigns; and 3) develop and implement processes and tools which specifically utilize technology to coordinate the sharing of resources over geographical distance (i.e.: development of an online database, exploration of the feasability of net meetings, et cetera).

Black Gold Collection Development

Sunlight steering committee

Steering committee for worldwide internet-based recovery from alcoholism group. The group is composed of members around the world who use the Internet and its resources to further their recovery from alcoholism, and the list we are requesting would enable the officers of that group to discuss issues related to the organization, structure, maintenance, and technical issues that arise as a result of having members communicating with each other from around the world. This includes subjects such as providing technical assistance with mail software to our members, what web pages the group wants to put up and maintain, or having a chat channel for non-time-lagged discussions when a member is having a particular problem.

The Accessible Friends Network Executive Committee

A list for the Executive Committee of the Accessible Friends Network to discuss committee business via the internet. The Accessible Friends Network, is a UK based self help organisation, whose members work on a volunteer basis to improve the lives of Blind People and blind people with other disabilities to use information technology, thus helping them communicate with others. All Group and Committee business is conducted over the internet, mainly with voice chat facilities.

CNTS Mailing List

This is a mailing list for the employees of the CNTS research group and related researchers. CNTS is the Center for Dutch Language and Speech at the University of Antwerp (Belgium). The aim of this mailing list is to provide a platform for current employees, as well as past, present and future visiting researchers. http://www.cnts.ua.ac.be The Center for Dutch Language and Speech was founded in 1993 as a research center of the University of Antwerp, within the linguistics department. Topics researhed at CNTS include Dutch linguistics, (computational) psycholinguistics, and corpus linguistics. A strong research focus is on language technology. Within the field of computational linguistics and language technology, CNTS members are involved in graduate and post-graduate education. The major areas of research expertise include: + computational phonology, morphology and lexicography + shallow parsing, part-of-speech tagging, and named-entity recognition + word sense disambiguation + applications of text mining (document classication, information extraction, topic detection and tracking) + machine learning applied to language technology + tools and techniques for corpus collection and annotation + computational models of human language acquisition and processing Currently CNTS consists of 20 researchers. Permanent members of staff are Walter Daelemans and Steven Gillis. Research activities of CNTS are funded by the University of Antwerp, the Flemish Fund for Scientic Research (FWO Vlaanderen), the Flemish Institute for Innovation through Science and Technology (IWT), the Dutch Language Union, and occasional industrial contract research. CNTS has initiated CLIF and coordinates it from the start in 1995, is a member of several European research networks in computational linguistics and machine learning.

BadGirlsNews

BadGirls.org was founded in April, 1998 as a place on the internet where women can exercise their right of free speech without fear of a post being deleted. Members help each other with a variety of issues including graphic design using various software, web page design, and many other aspects. Thanks to the technology of the internet we are able to communicate with women from around the world who are all so generous with sharing their knowledge. We have members only webring and message board. We are in no way connected to the British television show called Bad Girls.
