FoH Discussion List

This list would 1) connect geographically dispersed Friends of Hudson members--citizens, farmers, medical practitioners, scientists and planners-- working for economic and community sustainability to share ideas and information about the use of information and communication technology, mapping software and planning methodologies to strengthen social activism and organizing for sustainability, 2) to explore and research applicable technologies and methodologies and 3) to pilot and evaluate such technologies in our communities and 4) to share results electronically. Topics for discussion will include those related to human health and the natural environment, ecology, renewable energy, sustainability, strengthening a regional economy by building local food systems that incorporate sustainable technologies.

Consensus 2010 Conference Steering Committee

In February of 2010, the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) will hold a scientific meeting in Dallas, USA. ILCOR is dedicated to the continual improvement of medical treatments for cardiac arrest. As part of that overall objective, representatives of resuscitation councils from around the world meet on a regular basis to evaluate scientific evidence that supports proposed changes to current guidelines and treatment recommendations for cardiac arrest victims. ILCOR meetings are sponsored by the American Heart Association, not for profit organization.

NO2ID Brighton and Hove

A list for the members of the local Brighton and Hove branch of the NO2ID campaign (www.no2id.net). The campaign is against the UK Governments plans to set up an electronic National Identity Register (containing citizens' biometric data) linked to a compulsary national ID card. This is technology related because the Governments plans include a multi-billion pound IT project. Many of our discussions will focus around aspects of this project.

BCCWC Steering Committee

The BC Coalition of Women's Centres, a virtual community, recently developed a Steering Committee in order to streamline the process of decision-making and focus on specific work the Coalition needs to do. The Steering Committee e-mail discussion list will exist to: 1) develop strategies for increasing access to information and communications technology, especially in isolated northern and rural women's centres, in order to effectively integrate ICT into the work of women's centres; 2) explore methods by which technology can be used to increase the visibility of women's centres, raise funds for the Coalition and for individual women's centres, and improve the effectiveness of education/awareness campaigns; and 3) develop and implement processes and tools which specifically utilize technology to coordinate the sharing of resources over geographical distance (i.e.: development of an online database, exploration of the feasability of net meetings, et cetera).
