Computer Society of Pakistan, Karachi Chapter's Mailing List. The Computer Society of Pakistan (CSP) is the national organization of Information Technology professionals in the country. It was established in 1973 to promote the use of computers, increase general awareness among the public and to look after the professional interests of the IT personnel in the country. The Society holds lectures, seminars and technology forums which provide an excellent platform for the interaction of professionals. It organizes annual computer exhibitions and software competitions all over the country with the objective of fostering a better future for IT in Pakistan. The Computer Society of Pakistan sponsors students to take part in the international software competitions in various countries as well as organizes various programs for the youth. The theworldvotes mailing list will be used in combination with the theworldvotes.org platform. The main purposes of this platform and mailing list will be twofold: 1) let the world vote during the US presidential elections in 2004 and 2) host a debate about e-voting and e-democracy. This last topic will focus on privavy issues, security issues and transparancy issues regarding e-voting on a global scale. Therefore, various e-voting methods will be assessed and our thesis that e-voting engines should be made using open source software will be discussed. This whole inititiave is started without funding, relying on a small group of volunteers, hence our request to freelists.org. |
