I bought the Sony MVCCD250 2 Mpix w. CD-R. It's been a very good camera for us, as it does mpeg audio/video as well as exceptional quality still photos. I bought the camera just before the birth of our first child and brought it into the delivery room to get the first moments out of the womb. With the CD-R those pictures and videos are now archived, and the USB port allowed me to post the pictures online within hours of the birth for family around the world. Number of pictures were totally dependent on the resolution, but you can carry around extra minidisks and get something like 80 pictures at full available resolution per disk with the number going up the lower the resolution you choose. The disks are a lot cheaper than flash RAM and much less subject to static. To print them at your photo place keep the highest resolution but for your photo printer at home you can drop the resolution and get decent pics.=20 -----Original Message----- From: techassist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:techassist-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lyles Tv Sent: Monday, May 05, 2003 8:59 AM To: techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx I agree with the megapixel comment. A minimum of 2.1 MP is what you need for reasonably good quality photo prints. Obviously 3 mp is beter---etc etc. You also have to wiegh the storage space involved. Taking, and storing 5 megapixel pics can fill up a hard drive quickly. I burn my pics to cdrs periodically (depends on the volume of shots) keeping my hard drive relativly clean. I burn extra copies and send them to my mom as a backup in case of fire---cheap and easy insurance. My complete library since taking family photos digitally takes up 1 and a half 800mb cdrs. Don't worry so much about the type of media storage any particular camera has. Tiger direct has USB connect, external multi card reader for 20 bucks. Reads 3 different mediums. Most cameras hook directly to a usb port otherwise. I have been considering panasonic and hitachis dvd-camcorders lately. I havent put my hands on one yet, but the convience of a camcorder burning directly to dvdr or dvd-rw's seems very nice. They also take still shots--but the bummer is that the still shots they take are only 640x480. My minolta 35mm camera is going in the rummage sale next week. Haven't touched it it in two years. ----- Original Message ----- From: "teltek3" <teltek3@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <techassist@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Monday, May 05, 2003 9:58 AM Subject: [TechAssist] Re: Digital camera preferences?
