Stopping the monetary award for the win did not have a big affect. Some
of the awards were never cashed (the small ones) and the larger awards were
usually taken by the handlers. And figuring out the awards required a
degree in higher mathematics!! The Red Book did have an affect on the system
-
or rather maybe it was the ranking of the top futurity producers.

Handlers have also had a big affect. The cost of showing has become very
high. And I notice that handlers are now being allowed to judge again. I
doubt that will be a benefit to the system.

I remember the olden days when you got a check for a futurity win or
placing. May not a lot, I remember one check for three dollars. I wonder if
things changed when the checks were knocked off and the futurity red book
thing took over?
It was fun when there were whole litters being shown in one or two areas.

I don't enter anymore.
The handlers treat it like a national, the breeders look for the red book
listing fame, littermates are everywhere, not so much fun anymore. I am
not a big breeder and do not care about that fame.

There are futurities for all kinds of animals. They are not ALL like
ours. Perhaps it is time to spread your wings and look at a whole new idea.
Or keep going as you are and see how it works out.
