I agree with both Tom and Fred. Personally I don't care for the reserve sys=
tem. I have won 2 futurities and went reserve in a Maturity. When I went re=
serve..I walked away feeling that had the system not been in place I wouldn=
't have gotten anything..so what the Hell did it mean??? However I can unde=
rstand the concept of rewarding young dogs or two outstanding specimans of =
the breed. Perhaps a compromise would be to eliminate the reserve in the ma=
turity competition, as the dogs are mature and there should be no guess wor=
k involved in how they will grow up,but keep the reserve system in place =
for futurities if, as Fred said, the numbers at the given futurity warrent =
it. Historically if if you go back an look at old Reviews, many animals tha=
t placed 3 or 4th went on to have better carreers than animals that won the=
ir futurities so at the end of the day they would not have been rewarded by=
the reserve system anyhow. acknowledging a junior puppy that has potentia=
l at his futurity by giving him a reserve at his futurity really only says =
that on that day he looked good it is not a guarantee that he will continue=
to mature in a positive way. He may get to the futurity finals and look gr=
eat or look really bad, either way you aren't going to side step the fact t=
hat it is a crap shoot. C.Grainger=20
