It's also kind of like the "1st runner up" at the Miss America contest "If,
for some reason, Miss America is unable to fulfill her duties..."
Reserves allow each region to be represented at the national - my experience
with the Canadian Futurity is that before reserves, often the regional
winner didn't show up.. Canada has so few regions that with some of the
winners absent the finals were sometimes quite pathetic..
once reserves were introduced (BTW>> Thanks Kathaleen for that one!!!<g>)
not only were the reserves all showing up, but more of the winners as well..
it has made the finals often times very exciting!!
AND, there have been instances when a reserve dog went FV (right Kate??)
Kate's dog was reserve in the Western region to mine.. was I bitter??? Hell
no!!!! Sonny showed great and deserved the title..
I think competition is a good thing.. the more the merrier!!
