Handlers showing their own dogs is a tough one to call and I guess it depends on the situation. I have shown my own dogs and client dogs, but if both my dog and client dogs win classes, I always stay on client dogs since they are paying me to win or show their dogs. I am less likely to do it in small entries, just because there isn't much time to switch dogs around, etc - but on specialty weekends there is some time usually to switch armbands, get dogs tuned in, etc. Many handlers are still breeder/exhibitors and I think they have the right to remain that way.. BUT.... It really depends on the ethics of the individual and the ability to multi-task and put their priorities in the right places.
