Okay, let's go point by point. There is no "integrity test" that I know of
that can be given at ringside before shows. Therefore, why not just avoid
the appearance of impropriety whenever possible? Ask people who have been
beaten for a major by one of their own handler's dogs a few times how they
feel about it. Unfortunately, people usually design their opinions to fit
their personal circumstances with little or no reference to logic. Your
"decimation of majors" argument is a red herring. I'd say the handler should
sell all those dogs to show homes and then show them all that he/she wants.
Voila. No conflict of interest. Next, very clever (albeit disingenuous)
technique to say, "Be careful before you condemn all handlers".. The only
problem is that I didn't do that or anything like that. As Joe Friday might
say, "Stick to the facts ma'am. Just the facts." Again, my answer to
Barbara's original question is that handlers shouldn't show dogs that they
own or co-own at shows where they're taking other people's money to show
their dogs, period. It's a very obvious conflict of interest.

Again it comes down to integrity. So if a handler didn't enter his dogs
and that lack of entry decimated any chance for the show having a major...
you would be ok with that?
We support shows by entering a LOT of our dogs at times. I can think of
numerous times where had we not entered , the show would have been a very
small minor.
Are you also opposed to handlers showing their Specials if you are only in
the classes? Or how about showing a
dog from the opposite sex of yours? How about a puppy?
Be careful when you condemn all handlers ....be careful when you say they
"shouldn't" because you
may just take a major away from a struggling club.

I think it has to be understood and divulged up front that a handler is
bringing in a dog.
As long as a person has that choice and that knowledge in advance, then they
can
choose whether or not to show.
If the handler is ethical, has integrity, and I realize some do not, the
handling will be
a 100% effort for every dog. Also, very often handlers often enter their
OWN dogs to help hold a major
for a client's dog, that may need it....funny though, that is seldom noticed
or appreciated.
Usually , speaking for us, mind you, it is our own dogs that get the least
grooming, warm up
and attention at a show. We are usually so hurried from class to class with
clients' dogs, that
are own dogs are often brought right out of the crate , right into the
ring. If you are going to
short change a dog at a show, it damn well better be your OWN dog that gets
the least .
I do know of handlers that play the games that use "gas dogs" , that use
clients' to
further their own agendas. It is appalling, and gives a bad name to all.
Choose a handler with integrity, with honesty. Make sure they are "up
front" about
whom is being shown, and where.....you can choose to show, or not, that way.
