Yes we can do what ever we want to do with the information at hand.
In this case an incident reading telling us how much light is hitting the
meter. I tend to go with the reading as I'm not quite absorbing why I'd want
to use anything different.
Some times on my Gossens I'd take a reflective reading and interpret or
place then slide the dome in front of the sensor and compare the two
readings - they tended to match up. VERY reassuring.
The amount of exposure errors I'd make over 44.4 years was down around the
Zero Area.

If they were off maybe I'd average the two which would mean I'd add or take
away a half a stop..

A reflective reading is all about interpretation. All about thinking and
planning. Placing. Being aware of thresholds.

While many incident meters can be used to measure foot candles.
They don't care what color shirt your wearing. They're just telling you how
much light is hitting it.
In a way I kind of like that. In a way I kind of don't.

On the white backdrop I went through a period where I used my Minolta spot
which also measures flash.

I thought why be less careful with my exposure planning in the studio than I
am on location?

But after a few years I went back to taking incident flash readings again
like everybody else.
It must be because its all about distance from the light.
Which is not what location work is all about. The sun is not going to change
distance and if it is I'm not going to want to know about it.
