Great Rule Troth!! I don't mind the biggies - and have a friend who just got DSL, and is having a blast forwarding them to me. Of course, I've already seen most of what she is forwarding, but there are a few that I haven't, and she's careful - knows the rules - and only sends really good ones. Cris ----- Original Message ----- From: ~OoO~ Several things you can do... although, they're not always the most convenient methods. "Convenient" to me is just hitting forward, not fiddling with all the header stuff. We talked about being able to put in a bogus FROM address. Well, you can always put in a modified email address. For example, if my address is sirtroth@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, I can instead put for the FROM field sir_troth@xxxxxxxxxxxxx or sirtroth_DO_NOT_REPLY@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx This way, the recipient will know its you, but can't reply by just hitting REPLY. Further, forwarding to a million people won't necessarily get you on their lists. But... this is protects from people hitting the FORWARD and REPLY buttons. Any common sense person can just look at it and figure out the address. This just makes it harder. Of course, every situation tends to need a specific solution. Awhile ago, I had someone who continued to forward me mpeg joke clips. While the majority of the clips were 2MB to 4MB in size, some were almost 10MB. Being that my old Mindspring is only 10MB max, AND I receive a ton of email regularly, I really didn't need to have this "junk" mail sent. Not to mention, that on many occasions I check my mail from work, on a "dial-up". Regardless of how many times I told this idiot (who was a personal friend of mine in real-life) he continued to send them. He would say OK, and then send. The way I stopped it?... I set up a rule on my other mail client that when there was "any" mail from this guy that contained an attachment, it would forward it back to him 5 times, each with the attachment PLUS a message telling him the mail bounced because I do not accept attachments. To me, it was a nice auto setup. To him, it was inconvenient and annoying, and baffled him why it was bouncing. He actually believed it to be coming from the mail server, a true bounce. Result? It finally stopped. ---Troth -- <Please delete this line and everything below.> To unsub or change your email settings: //www.freelists.org/webpage/pctechtalk To access our Archives: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PCTechTalk/messages/ //www.freelists.org/archives/pctechtalk/ For more info: //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/list?list_id=pctechtalk
