Hello GMan

I'm delighted to report that my fonts problem appears to have been fixed and
I am most grateful to you

Ironically, I cannot tell you which of your two fixes was the successful
one, as neither worked straightaway. I repeated each of them several times
and then, wondrous to behold, success! Let's hope that it is lasting

As you have spent so much time on the latest of my problems, may reciprocate
a little by pointing out a couple of details, concerning the two fixes:

Uncheck boxes in Internet Options > Advanced

I do not have a "Show friendly URLs", certainly not under Advanced and
nowhere else that I could find. The closest was "Show friendly HTTP error
messages", so I unchecked that

Internet Options > General > Accessibility

I do not have an "Apply" button in the Accessibility box and (if relevant)
the "Apply" button in Internet Properties is greyed out. However (if this
fix was the one that worked) it looks as if the Registry somehow got to know
of the new settings, as they have survived several reboots. Strange

When (if?) you have a moment to spare (and at the risk of my being consigned
to sit in the corner) could you please have a look at the couple of
questions I asked in my 23 October post concerning Doug Knox's Article
"Perform a Repair Installation"?

Sorry about not including the whole of your post, to which I was replying:
and I thought I was being helpful, cutting it short!

Regards
David

David,
There will NEVER be a need for anyone here to apologize for asking "so
many" questions. If we don't receive any questions, there would be no need
for the group. As an aside, I am also determined to get to the bottom of
this, as long as you don't give up. :O)

The fully functional second Identity certainly does shed light on ...,
well, something. Simply put, it tells us that the problem is limited to the
old identity and is not systemwide. Translated, it means that the problem
is not the result of a corrupted OE application file (those include OE's
actual EXE as well as all of the support files it uses to do what it does).
This eliminates a lot of possible issues with those files.

Since your most recent revelation still leaves us with plenty of
suspects (it could still be a problem with a registry entry, your Fonts
folder, your message store, etc.) and a severe lack of obvious clues, I went
Google hunting for more specific possibilities.

Many folks with similar issues have reported that the following fix
works for font changing problems within OE. Others have reported no effect.
Try it and see if it helps.

Close OE. In Control Panel, open up the Internet Options applet and click
on the Advanced tab. Uncheck 'Show friendly URLs' and uncheck 'Use HTTP
1.1'. If either of them are already unchecked, leave them unchecked. Click
Apply and then reopen OE, open a new email message and test the font change
ability. Either way, go back into the Advanced tab and recheck at least the
'Use HTTP 1.1' box and hit Apply. According to the success stories I've
read, if the unchecking fixed the problem, you should find that the problem
is still fixed even after rechecking them. Let me know if it works for you.

If that doesn't work, another possible fix is to open up the Internet
Options applet and, on the General tab, click on the Accessibility button
and uncheck all of the boxes in there. They are unchecked by default, but
may have been turned on at some point. Be sure to click Apply afterwards to
enter the change into the registry.

If neither of these ideas work, let me know and we'll try something
else.

Oh, one more thing (and this is for everyone reading this). When
replying to a post, please do me a favor and leave in the entire post to
which you're replying. I've found that Gmail doesn't usually send my own
posts back to me through POP access (many others have also complained about
this issue to them), so I usually have no way of knowing what I said in my
last message. If you leave in all of my text up to and including my name,
it'll enable me to jump right back into the conversation, no matter how much
time has past since my last post in the thread. :O)

Peace,
GMan
