Yes, Don, I have. It shows my default setting as 14pt Times New Roman. This
is perfectly OK as a default. The problem comes when I either try to change
the default or, leaving the default as it is, try to change the font in a
particular email. I can do neither and what happens, each and every time, is
described in my last post

Have you gone to Tools>Options>Compose tab and then set your default fonts?
