I still use my rubber mat, and I think I have a couple other ones but not
sure. Exceptional teaching has rubber mats that we use with students reading
in the Mangold reading program. They may work. They are larger than 8 1/2.
They are standard braille paper size, and they keep the student's paper from
slipping.

RE keeping the page steady:

When many of us took our training years ago, there was a rubber mat
available from TSI, about the size of a standard 8.5-by-11-inch sheet of
paper that you could put on a table or desktop to hold the sheet in place.
Matter of fact, I think there was a thread here a while back asking if these

mats were still available anywhere, since many of our mats have gotten
smooth and ineffective through long years of use.

My own approach to this problem has been to keep a blotter on the desk where

I use my Optacon and keep a sheet of white, rough-textured blotter paper in
the blotter. These items can be bought fairly cheaply from just about any
store that sells standard office supplies.
