P.S. Comparing the two photos that show the bird most clearly, it looks
as if the green "tail" stays in one place while the rest of the bird
shifts between frames. The "tail" is also more smoothly colored than
therest of the bird.

So I think the explanation of an intervening leaf (though odd colored
compared to most other leaves) makes sense. If this is a viburnum as
Olin suggested, the bottom side of the leaves would be contrasting in
colored (you can see one leaf like this which seems to be flipped around
to show the underside). The "tail" leaf -- if it's indeed a leaf --
would need to be viewed more on edge than the other leaves, perhaps with
the underside showing but shaded, to account for the odd color.
