Makes sense to me. If Obama seems to be winning, he's more newsworthy than McCain. If you're a lean and hungry reporter, whose campaign plane would you rather be on?
On a side note, that's always interested me. Presumably, senior reporters get to pick...but sometimes they must regret their pick. Human drama is everywhere...
