But Jerry, in a forms field I never ever just click when I hear the words
"first name" or "user ID" or anything. I know that's the label associated
with an edit field, whether or not it's properly right before it the way we
prefer things to be coded. I always wait to hear Jaws announce "edit" before
I go into forms mode. So in all these years, I've never accidentally clicked
on something like a control or a link to another page at a time like that.
Okay? I can see why, if you've had trouble with something like that, it
would be a nice thing to have the harmless space bar alternative. Honest.
But I just never had that happen to me. I've made a host of other
unfortunate mistakes trying to navigate troublesome Web pages, but not this
kind of thing.

but I'm not dismissing the space bar as a useless keyboard control. Many's
the time I've used it to add a blank space between a period and the
beginning of a new sentence, for example, so I really appreciate this
Windows keyboard innovation.

I think they endowed the space bar with special powers around version 5.

Why I like it is let's say you have a poorly marked form that says "first
name, last name and then there are two text fields. If you mistakenly hit
enter on the words "first name," thinking you will go into forms mode, you
may activate the default button to buy a squiggly or go into a different web
page.
