Sighted people can also immediately see the blinking cursor and know where it is in a microsecond. They don't have to remember every time they go to a web site to do an additional key combination to check to see where that cursor is. No, I have not used the feature. But I don't have to be exposed to everything to know whether or not it is a good idea for me or not. I already can tell you that I don't want yet another thing to remember to do everytime I open a web site. I guess, like the sighted people you refer to, I want to open the site and go about my business without having to waste time and brain cells ha ha checking to make sure where I am. I'd rather have the program consistently place me in the same situation. Web sites are quirky and behave differently enough when using a screen reader without adding yet another variable into the mix. For example, I love web sites that put me back where I was when I go back to the previous page after visiting a link. It's consistent, it's convenient. All web sites do not do this successfully. It can be worked around, but it seems so much easier to me if you go back to the same point from which you departed. Also have you actually used the feature? If I want to fill out something, it is so easy to hit enter to get into forms mode, there is no chance of typing something into an edit field unintentionally, I always know whether I'm in forms mode or not, and if for some reason, I'm unsure, all I have to do is press the key combination for the pc cursor to find out. I don't like my computer or its programs to do my thinking for me, and automatically putting me in forms mode when I may not want to be there falls into that category IMO. However I find it annoying when sometimes it will automatically go in to auto forms mode when you first load up a site. For example EBay or other sites were there is a search box or username field, and the website is designed to put you straight to either of the boxes. JAWS then switches to forms mode as soon as the page has loaded (sometimes even whilst it's loading), and then you can't use your navigation quick keys to move around the page, without having to press down arrow first to get out of forms mode. I'd like to have it so that JAWS wont go in to auto forms mode in situations were the website automatically puts you in an edit field. Anybody else have any comments on this?
