There once was a man from Nantucket
Whose truck was a total rustbucket
He tried with his heart
To find the right part
But if this part won't fit then he'll junk it.

Mary, ultimately I do need to replace the manifold and carburetor because the
one I have runs poorly.  But not sure I want to take that project on until
spring, so hopefully I can get the alternator to fit before winter sets in.

I hope I helped.  You were very fortunate to find a yard guy who is helpful.
Perhaps if you replace the carb and manifold?

Clustertruck - I like that.
