Go with an Edelbrock Performer or Performer RPM (if you have a bit of a cam in it...the Performer is just a little better than stock) and an Edelbrock 1406 carb. Set it and forget it. You'll thank yourself endlessly as you drive with consistent performance and reliability.
Read this page. I've never found anything to change my mind. http://www.chevyasylum.com/Previous%20Projects/80elky/80elky11.html r On 11/17/2010 7:25 AM, Saul Marsh wrote:
The catalog has many '73-'77 parts with a note saying "May be out of stock...call for availablity." It gives me the impression that he had a limited number of parts made, but does not plan on continuing to carry them in the future. Mary, the limerick is mine....I like joking about my car as much as I like working on it. As far as the manifold and carb go, I still toss around the idea of getting an aftermarket carb and manifold. My car is so far away from original, with cut wires and tubes spliced and emission control parts missing...I just don't think I'd be able to hook up a correct Quadrajet up to it anymore. But if I do, I will definitely try to have my ducks in a row before I remove any bolts.------------------------------------------------------------------------ *From:* John Christensen <johncgg@xxxxxxxxx> *To:* elky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx *Sent:* Tue, November 16, 2010 6:03:29 PM *Subject:* [elky] Re: Sprint's generator nos 1, 2He is the only one I know of (practically) that has any parts for those. I don't know that the parts were ever 'in' so I wouldn't say they are necessarily on the way out.Call Rick though, he is a great guy. We have had many a long conversation. I missed your e-mail about ecparts. I like that place and noticed all the photos of '73-'77 in his catalog (although I noticed thatthe parts for that generation all seem to be on their way out). It resembles my Monte as far as the parts and strategy by the Previous owner. The EL Camino by virtue of the sheer number of parts from different vehicles, and the fact that it keeps dying, but coming back to life (hence: Elkenstein). I am glad you found the parts source. I wish I had closer yards. 30 minutes north or south for me to get to one. JC On Sun, Nov 14, 2010 at 9:19 PM, Saul Marsh <saulmarsh72@xxxxxxxxx <mailto:saulmarsh72@xxxxxxxxx>> wrote: Thank you Mary! I went to a great salvage yard yesterday. The owner used to drive a GMC Sprint. He immediately recognized my Autozone alternator as the correct one for my year of vehicle. He also saw my "before" photo and said the old aternator belonged to a mid to late 80's GM vehicle. He sold me some alternatorbrackets that were identical to the ones in your photo. Unfortunately they still don't fit. I think this all has todo with the previous owner installing a 1980-ish carburetor on the car, which would presumably required replacing the intake manifold, which would then require fabbing new alternator brackets, and throw on an incorrect alternator to top it all off. What do I have now......... .......a Clustertruck!!! (new name for my '73 Sprint). Still was a good weekend, though, and I'm very glad to find a friendly, patient, knowledgeable salvage yard owner. That's as good as gold.
