Why bother to delete the picture in the first place ...? Because, having seen it on the page, I decided I could "improve" on it. Happens quite a lot.

Yes but why delete and drop in the new version, rather than just dropping the new version on top of the old one.

Now I know about it, that's a simpler solution. But it still doesn't solve the problem -- the old picture is not replaced by the new ... until I close the file and re-open it!

Thinking about your email later on, I thought I'd got it, ISTR you had problems with not having enough memory for huge image files. So I thought you were probably deleting the old image to make space for the new one. Of course that doesn't necessarily work because the old image can be in the undo buffer.

Your recollection is correct, but that wasn't what I was trying to do on this occasion.

I was going to say, delete the old image, then

Misc-> Clear Undo buffer

Doesn't seem to make any difference ... the "old" image still reappears.

Hmm. Someone mentioned saving the edited image with a different name. That would be interesting.

That works ... but I suspect it would make for other complications, like me remembering which file is which.
