The problem is that one of the notices on each book says that the book can not be kept in a retrieval system or can not be reproduced unless it's in special format. So I took it to mean that you can't have these translated files unless they're in bookport or some other program or device related to access for the visually impaired.

Wintrans will do it. You can use this tool even if you want to transfer the files to the Bookport.
