For reading text files, whether .txt, .doc, .html, etc., the bookport is quite superior to the stream as it currently stands. I did purchase a Stream to supplement my bookport because of the downloads from NLS which are coming before the BP 2 is released. The BP 2 is still vapor hardware, and I don't think I would upgrade if all that it would offer is a way to get the NLS titles. I am very happy with my bookport as it stands, so I may not be willing to shell out the additional dollars, which APH says will be the cost of the new BP when and if it ever comes out. I expect that third party manufacturers will be coming out to compete with both Stream and Bookport. They would do well to look at the bookport design and features if they want to give us a competitive product. -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of mohit Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2007 7:43 AM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Re: Victor Reader Stream 1 thing is, the the b p has a lot of user's, so that's a plus point, and we all no that aph is whery supportiv, so at this point i think the b p is the best to go whit, mohit.----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Alfaro" <rick.alfaro@xxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2007 1:45 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Victor Reader StreamYes, I took a good look at it and even read through the manual that is also on their web site. It does sound interesting but I think I amsticking itout for the BP2 because I have seen how committed APH has been interms ofdevelopment with the BP1. I am also a little hesitant about the ttsthatis going into the Victor Stream. I have never heard that tts engine, buttheBP2 will still have a hardware based synthesizer which I prefer. Ithinkyou will see more battery life out of the BP2 as well. 15 hours withtheStream just doesn't sound that impressive to me. --Warmest regards, --Rick Alfaro --rick.alfaro@xxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Russ Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2007 3:28 AM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Victor Reader Stream Hi Has anyone tried the new Victor Reader Stream which at least based on its features list is a strong competitor to the Bookport? The advantages it offers that interest me are a built-in speaker and variable speed control on audio files. The features description on the website is poorly done so I am not sure of many basic features butit appears to have everything expected in the Bookport 2 and more and it is available now. http://www.humanware.com/en-shared_content/products/digital_talking_bo oks/po rtable_cd_and_flash_player/_details/id_81/victorreader_stream.html I wonder if this is why there are a few people currently selling theirbooksport.
