Hi All,The company being for profit or not for profit is a corporate structuring where certain IRS guidelines need to be met to qualify. APH could charge $2000, not that they would, and still be a not for profit company having 501c(3) tax-exempt status which I should think they have. Having trade-ins would be a messy proposition for APH. The used BP's would be in all sorts of differing conditions and would be difficult to price properly and support. Since they are not in the business of using spare parts, not having a trade-in policy is the only sensible policy for APH to have regarding the current BP. After a few months of the release of the BP2, I expect that one might be able to buy a used BP for around $100 or maybe less.

Hi Louis and list! There will be no trade ins. APH is not a for profit company like Humanware or Freedom Scientific.Cheers, Dave----- Original Message ----- From: "louis scrivani" <lscrivani2@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Sunday, July 01, 2007 11:23 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Victor Reader StreamSince the bp will eventually have a internal speaker. Will they be offering trade ins or refurbishing of the older units.----- Original Message ----- From: Rick AlfaroTo: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2007 4:31 PM Subject: [bookport] Re: Victor Reader Stream David, It does handle text as it has a built-in TTS engine, specifically, Nuance Vocalizer or something to that affect. Another plus for the BP2 howeverwhich I forgot to mention in my last post is the note taker feature which Iintend to really put to use now that the BP2 will have a built-in speaker. --Warmest regards, --Rick Alfaro --rick.alfaro@xxxxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Allen Sent: Saturday, June 30, 2007 4:16 AM To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bookport] Re: Victor Reader Stream Hi Russ and list! Far as I can see from what I've read, the only advantage it offers is a speaker. That only for the things the two devices handle in common. It doesn't handle text, Word, HTML BRF or other non-Daisy marked files except for Audible, which I believe it plans to support. I think they felt theyneeded to have something for these conventions to keep their name out thereand that's what they've thrown together. It may be available now, but not many Daisy books are, regardless of what device you choose. The advantages it offers that interest me are a built-in speaker and variable speed control on audio files. The features description on the website is poorly done so I am not sure of many basic features but it appears to have everything expected in the Bookport 2 and more and it is available now.http://www.humanware.com/en-shared_content/products/digital_talking_books/po rtable_cd_and_flash_player/_details/id_81/victorreader_stream.htmlI wonder if this is why there are a few people currently selling their booksport.
