I agree with you Lori. I would love to proof any of her submissions. She was very pleasant to work with, and as you said, the submission I proofed was virtually flawless. As for chapter titles, oh yes! This has happened to me before. I should have had a book finished by now that I am working on, but due to school, it's still hanging out on my flash drive. None of the chapter titles scanned in it. Furthermore, none of the page numbers scanned in, so I am going to have to get sighted help to correct this problem so that I can manually add the titles and page numbers into the book. Had I not already read much of this particular author's work, I probably wouldn't give the chapter titles a second thought since there is no table of contents. -Alyssa -Alyssa From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Lori Castner Sent: Thursday, January 14, 2010 8:28 AM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Re: Looking for Pamela Bortz I'm going to discuss this person to say that I have proofed four or five of her books and they were almost perfect scans. I even contacted her to say that I would be eager to proof any of her Christian fiction submissions. Hadley was closed for several weeks at Christmas which would justify a slow response. As mentioned previously, often chapter numbers do not scan so an blind individual might not know that chapter numbers were missing. I would certainly hope that if I submitted a book with problems that I would not become a list topic. This situation came up shortly after I became a volunteer, and I almost stopped volunteering because of it. I do not think it is appropriate to discuss specific individuals, publicly. Blessings. In my opinion this might better have been handled by contacting Carrie or Pavi if someone didn't have her email to contact her directly. It's different if someone invites discussion about their work, but it doesn't seem that's what happened here. My book had no chapter headings, no protection of page breaks or pagination, missing punctuation and incorrect formatting throughout the book. She submitted lots of books over the holidays and if we both have problems, chances are the others have issues, too. Hope she will improve with help, but it is unfair for her to get credit if the second person has to work 3 times (or more!) as hard...
