Hunting Sandhill Cranes in Kentucky makes a mockery of Kentucky itself, not to mention the ethics of hunting, KDFWR's objectivity, and government in general in this state. Luckily the entire process is a trial and if enough outcry is generated to raise political pressure on the bureaucrats, it will end. If political pressure is not raised, this will be permanent. We must organize now to fight making this permanent. KDFWR is not going to listen to facts; they displayed an amazing ability to ignore them last time. The pressure must be political; it must be organized; it must represent lots of people and organizations. Any pressure that does not include these 3 features (minimally) is doomed. Is this not also undue disturbance? Frank Renfrow Fort Thomas Subject: Re: Sandhill cranes Date: Fri Dec 28 2012 17:33 pm From: brainard AT mindspring.com At the risk of sounding like a defender of KDFWR ... as stated several times on BIRDKY previously, the reason why no one (including KDFWR I'm sure) *typically* reports sightings of Whooping Cranes, is that the International Crane Foundation (the entity most invested in the project to put them into the eastern Sandhill population) has specifically asked that locations *not* be given out publicly ... this to protect the Whoopers from undue disturbance. bpb, Louisville ================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBERS============== When posting on BIRDKY, please close posts with your first and last name and your address (city or county). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To post on BIRDKY, send e-mail to: birdky@xxxxxxxxxxxxx * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS website at http://www.biology.eku.edu/kos/default.htm * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Visit the KOS Photo Page to view photos of birds recently sighted in Kentucky: http://www.flickr.com/groups/kentucky_ornithological_society/pool * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * To unsubscribe, send e-mail to: birdky-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject line. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BIRDKY List Manager: Gary Ritchison.
