You could go to Bells Bend area in Nashville. They are probably gone by now, but a pair have wintered there the past two years and they are closer than the ones at Aransas (been there, too) ... Saw hundreds of sandhills, no whoopers. Checked 6 major flocks ...including one by invitation of a local farmer who asked me if I was lost, and I said no, just looking for cranes, so he said go down by his barn and look in a bottom where they usually can be seen....and many flybys and small bunches in the fields for about 4 hours.
