It seems a bit of a contradiction to have to keep Whooping Crane sightings
secret so that nonviolent observers are unable to enjoy seeing them, while it
seems to be perfectly legal in KY to shoot at a Sandhill Crane that might be
flying or standing right next to a Whooping Crane. Is this not also undue
disturbance?

At the risk of sounding like a defender of KDFWR ...

as stated several times on BIRDKY previously, the reason why no one (including
KDFWR I'm sure) *typically* reports sightings of Whooping Cranes, is that the
International Crane Foundation (the entity most invested in the project to put
them into the eastern Sandhill population) has specifically asked that
locations *not* be given out publicly ... this to protect the Whoopers from
undue disturbance.
