Guys and Gals,
Sorry this will be so long but you just need to hear about this one.
I am presently working with a person in Montana that just bought a 2004
Amaya from another party in Texas. She paid what I would consider to be a
premium price for a used machine, sight unseen. $8100.00 and $700+ dollars
for shipping. She sent the woman her money. The lady promised that she would
have it professionally crated and would insure the machine for what it was
worth. And then the nightmare started.
The machine was lost in transit, the hatdriver was shipped separately and
was also lost in transit. The machine was located on a shipping dock in Salt
Lake City after 1 month, the cap driver showed up 6 weeks later. The machine
was shipped by one carrier and 3 other carriers also handled the machine
before it arrived on her doorstep. She sent me pictures of the "professional
crating job. All I could say is Holy ------.........gheesh.
The tabletop and one side of the cart had been placed up against the front
of the needle-case and nothing else was placed to protect either side of the
Amaya. The Amaya was then tightly wrapped with plastic shipping wrap, much
like the stuff we use in the kitchen, only heavier and then placed on a
wooden palette. Nothing else protected the machine. Now let your imagination
run wild just for a minute and imagine the abuse an unprotected Amaya could
be put through in the back of several trucks while being transferred between
4 different shipping companies.
The needlecase is jammed, the carriage is out of alignment and the left side
of it has been battered, and looks like it was dragged across a paved
parking lot. Paint is missing over several areas on the machine, three of
the cone spindles were broken. The cart is gouged and worn as well as the
tabletop as they were use as the primary protection for the machine, one of
the red plastic side covers was broken and, and , and the motherboard was
left open to the elements.......The lady was able to turn the machine on
and let me listen to her trying to perform a trace function, and all I could
say is , "Oh my god!!!----turn it off, turn it off now...do not turn the
machine on again!!!!!!"
Anyway, you should get a pretty good picture of how this purchase is going.
She calls the lady, the lady says not her problem, the shipper said that
they provide insurance. She calls the first shipper and they say, after
looking at all the pictures, Well gosh, all the damage is just superficial
in nature as far as we can see and we do carry insurance, $5.00 per pound
should cover what we see. The story goes on and on.......I gave the lady a
tentative estimate of $5500.00 for parts and repair costs which could be
more when the machine has a hands on inspection.
This nightmare is still in the process of being resolved. Just thought I
would relate this little story to those whom are contemplating purchasing
through a source other them Melco.
And Just for Herb-----you thought you had problems???? ;-}
