Man, I'd like to have Steve in my pocket next time I buy a new car. He's good. All of these are excellent points. And unless you know the person selling, I'll say again, "Buyer Beware". These machines are just like automobiles. Once you drive it off the lot, the value dramatically drops. It has more to do with things like a very narrow market. They have to be interested in the Amaya specifically, they have to have their own training, they have to be willing to pick up the unit from you or you have to be willing to build a crate. If you're not willing to take a loss, why would someone buy from you and not have support from Melco. This is not even to mention whether or not the machine is in good working order. I've watched machines on ebay sit with no bid many of times because the seller was asking way too much for the machine. At the same time, I've also seen a "fool and his money part" locally. They paid a little over $8K for an EM-6 which I think dates back to the early 90's. Machine was in horrible shape but they thought they were getting a good deal because it came with an antiquated PC too. If you don't do your homework, watch out! If this machine were in great shape, maybe 4 to 5K. Maybe. (There have been many embroidery machines advertised by scammers on ebay so be very careful about any purchase.) I do question the point of why they are using a stock picture of the XT and cant take a picture themselves or use a friends camera. If you do win, I would call the person before driving to pick it up. There was an Amaya advertised in Maine just a couple weeks ago for $5800 which didn't sell but I think $6000 is still a good price. I would ask a lot of questions before bidding. Number of hours, last time tech tuned it up, new rollers, Amaya version software, serial number, etc. I would also email Melco service and give them the serial number and ask if any transfer or other fees are involved in buying a used machine. Keep in mind the costs for gas and to rent a van move it too. Google maps gives good milage estimates. Wasn't 2002 or 2003 the first year Amaya came out? Call your tech and ask him what he thinks about 2003 Amayas. Maybe Ed or Hugo can chime in on thier opinions.
