Peter,
Lets start with the red pinch rollers. It has been discovered that many
problems have surfaced because of insufficient lubrication of the pinch
rollers. If you take some of the red pinch rollers off and see a red powdery
looking residue on the axle hub, this is plastic that is wearing off the
pinch roller. As this residue builds up the pinch roller will begin to drag,
skip or possibly freeze up. The lubrication timers have been discussed at
length in this forum. It is important to remember that they are guidelines
but certainly not the gospel or set in concrete,so to speak.

The lubrication of the pinch rollers is dependant on usage and it is very
difficult to set a perfect schedule for every machine. Individual needle
bars, rollers, needles, etc, as a matter of course receive different amounts
of use. Our favorite position for red, white, blue, and black, for instance ,
is on 1,2,3,4 of the thread palette. These colors get used much more than
many of the others so those positions receive more lubrication attention
than most of the others.

If the machine(s) are in constant daily use 8 to 10 hours a day, I would
probably be checking and lubricating these rollers on a weekly basis, i.e.,
if it were me. If the machine was only used sporadically or lets say 2 to 4
hours a day, I would set up some kind of monthly schedule still keeping in
mind the higher usage of the favorite colors and or positions that are used
the most.

The thread feed rollers also should be check the same as the above
descriptions. The rollers, especially the higher usage ones should be
checked, cleaned and the hubs lubricated more often than the rest. The key
is to set a schedule and stick by it. Don't depend entirely on the
maintenance timers to protect against every situation. It depends entirely
on the working environment of the machine. I was told about a business
running in , Brazil, I believe, that ran their machines 24 hours a day with
operators working in shifts around the clock. This is the extreme. It would
only be logical to assume that these machines should have a very aggressive
lubrication schedule worked up for them......
